DAY 1 MADRID

Transfer to hotel. Dinner and overnight at hotel.

DAY 2 MADRID

Breakfast, dinner and overnight at hotel. Morning guided city tour, we will visit panoramically some of its main avenues and monumental fountains (Cibeles, Neptuno), as well as the famous and busy “Plaza Mayor” (main square) and old town, visiting inside the Prado Museum, probably the best collection of classic painters of the world. Rest of day at leisure.

DAY 3 MADRID

Breakfast at hotel. Departure along the flat region ‘La Mancha’, Don Quixote’s scenario. CORDOBA During the Roman age, this city was important, but during the Moslem domination it reached the maximum splendor,specially in the IX and Xth centuries, when Cordoba became the capital of the Caliphate, was the most populated town in the world (almost 1 million). Afternoon guided city tour, to visit the Mosque, considered one the most beautiful. Then, a walk around the Jewish Quarter, with its narrow streets and Andalusia “patios”, and finishing with a visit of the Synagogue. SEVILLA Dinner and overnight at hotel.

DAY 4 SEVILLA

Breakfast, dinner and overnight at hotel. Morning guided tour to visit inside the Gothic Cathedral, the largest in Spain and third in the world, with the Giralda tower (striking minaret of the former mosque). Then a walk by Santa Cruz Quarter, a maze of small alleys and small squares with the peacefulness of a tiny garden is an invitation to rest. Afternoon at leisure.

DAY 5 SEVILLA

Breakfast at hotel. GRANADA Afternoon guided city tour, to visit La Alhambra, the best example of the sophisticated Royal life in the Nazari Islamic kingdom from XI to XV th century. We will find numerous halls and “patios” (courtyards) of amazing beauty. We will also visit the famous and beautiful Generalife gardens with its fountains. Dinner and overnight at hotel.

DAY 6 GRANADA

Breakfast at hotel. We suggest some more time to walk in its charming streets. VALENCIA (530 kms, about 6 hrs 30) Located in a fertile terrain and with a soft Mediterranean weather, it is surrounded by a rich orchard (its oranges are famous worldwide) and full of splendid public gardens. Dinner and overnight at hotel.

DAY 7 VALENCIA

Breakfast at hotel. Morning guided city tour, we will visit its Gothic cathedral, , where the bell tower called ‘Micalet’ is the symbol of the town. La Lonja (XVth exchange market ) and the old market are also very singular. We will also see the architecture of Santiago Calatrava , Ciudad de Las Artes y las Ciencias (city of Sciences and Arts). Afternoon departure to BARCELONA Dinner and overnight at hotel.

DAY 8 BARCELONA

Breakfast, dinner and overnight at hotel. In the morning, guided tour to familiarize yourself with the town, walking for the Gothic quarter full of buildings of the twelfth and sixteenth centuries, and visit inside the Cathedral. Followed by a visit of the district ‘Eixample’, where there are the main modernist buildings and the famous Sagrada Familia. To complete the tour, walking trough the famous “Ramblas”, a street full of life, bars, cafes, restaurants and street performers. Rest of day at leisure.

DAY 9 BARCELONA

Breakfast at hotel. ZARAGOZA Stop for walk in the Pilar Square, where the local citizens congregate for important events, and where there are the main monuments: Pilar Basilic, Seo, XVIth cent. Lonja (old market),… (it is possible, and we suggest it, to include a guided city tour) MADRID Dinner and overnight at hotel.

Time to visit the bull-ring, built in 1784, considered the most beautiful in Spain. Walking through the old town, we will find nice palaces and some magnificent views over countryside. Day 1 MADRID Airport.

Arrival and direct departure to ESCORIAL (arrival in about 80 minutes) Afternoon guided city tour of the monastery of El Escorial, the best representation of the Spanish Empire in XVIth century, when under Spanish crown were more than half of the known world (America, Philippines, a big part of present Italy, Holland, Belgium, etc). Departure to AVILA (arrival in 50 minutes) Dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 2 AVILA

Breakfast, dinner and overnight at hotel. In the morning, guided visit of Avila (Cathedral) and its impressive wall perfectly preserved around the middle age downtown. In the afternoon, we will travel to the nearby SEGOVIA (67 kms, 50 minutes) for a guided tour to visit the Alcazar , Cathedral and to remain amazed with the best preserved roman aqueduct on the world. Return to Avila.

Day 3 AVILA

Breakfast, dinner and overnight at hotel. Today we will visit SALAMANCA (75 minutes), where we will have a morning guided tour visiting Cathedral Old and New and the nice Main Square. Free time. Return to Avila.

DAY 4 AVILA

Breakfast at hotel. CANDELARIO Wonderful example of popular architecture of mountain. Stone houses. HERVAS. Short stop to visit an old ‘Juderia’ (Jewish quarter till XVth century). PLASENCIA Short stop, and superb Cathedral. Arrival CACERES. Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 5 CACERES

Breakfast, dinner and overnight in hotel. Morning guided city tour, and it is a wonderful surprise because it is very unknown town. Afternoon excursion to MERIDA, Probably the best preserved Roman ruins in Spain (a wonderful theater which is still used). Return to Caceres

Day 6 CACERES

Breakfast at hotel. Departure to TRUJILLO. Nice old downtown full of old palaces of ‘Indianos’ , those people who returned rich from their time in America in XVII and XVIIIth century. Pizarro was born here. GUADALUPE. Very important monastery on the discovery of the new world, America. Majority of conquerors and discoverers of America come from this region, Extremadura, and Guadalupe was the virgin of this region, that is the reason this monastery has wonderful art treasure and you can find the name of Guadalupe in hundreds of towns, villages, and monasteries in Latin America. Visit of the Monastery. Continious to TOLEDO. It has been the capital of Spain and the royal residence in the XIII century. During this period, Muslim, Jewis and Christians populations lived together peacefully turning it as a great cultural and monumental center. We will enjoy walking along its narrow streets where the history can be felt in the air. In the evening we suggest a walk in their stone streets when all tourists from Madrid are gone and town remains as a small place Its medieval streets lighted will bring us magically to other centuries. Day 7 TOLEDO

Breakfast, dinnner and overnight at hotel. Morning guided city tour , we will visit the Cathedral, St tome Church (where is El Greco painter’s masterpiece) and the Synagogue. A suggestion: in the way to Bilbao if you leave the highway exit to Zarautz’, and take direction to Guetaria, 3 kms before GUETARIA the road is like a balcony over and spectacular wild sea panorama,. Domecq is one of the oldest wine companies in Jerez, established in 1730 in an old 16th century mill. We will learn more about the production process and try some of its most reputed wines. DAY 5 GERENA

Breakfast and departure to Cordoba. CORDOBA Morning guided city tour with visit of the Aljama MOSQUE, one of the most emblematic buildings of Islamic art, whose construction was initiated by Abderramán I in the 8th century. The columns and arcades that stretch into the dim recesses of the prayer hall create a mysterious space that is often described as a forest of stone. Walk on the JEWISH QUARTER, with its fresh narrow streets and Andalusian “patios”, where we will find the only SYNAGOGUE preserved in Andalusia. Baeza was declared a “Historical-Artistic city” in 1966 and a “Model City of the Renaissance”, by the Council of Europe, in 1975. Ubeda was declared a Historical and Artistic City in 1955 and an “Exemplary City” by the Council of Europe in 1975. In 17th century the city reached its maximum splendour, the construction initiative of the high clergy and the lesser nobles would process the city in one of the more sumptuous ones of the Renaissance.

Day 1 (Sat) Madrid

– Arrive in Madrid and enjoy a welcome drink and orientation session this evening.

Day 2 (Sun) Madrid 

– After breakfast, enjoy your tour of Madrid. Highlights include the magnificent fountains of Neptune and Cibeles, the Alcala Gate, the Plaza de España… where we will see panoramically the view of most representative building. We will visit inside the spectacular Royal Palace which is still in use for Goverment ceremonies. Remainder of the day at leisure to stroll the many squares of Madrid or spend some time shooping. (B

Day 3 (Mon) Madrid/Cordoba/Seville

– After breakfast depart for Cordoba. Drive through “La Mancha”, land of the plains and knights such as Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. Upon arrival in Cordoba, start your guided tour of the historic city center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the Aljama, the 8th Century Mosque combining Islamic, Baroque and Gothic design and internationally recognized as an architectural treasure. Continue to Seville. Dinner at hotel is included. Day 4 (Tue) Seville 

–Today enjoy a guided of Seville, the most romantic city in Spain. Highlights include a visit to the Cathedral, considered the world’s largest Gothic edifice. Afterwards, stop for some photos of La Giralda tower before strolling through the narrow lane of Seville’s delighful Santa Cruz Distric, a former Jewish Quarter. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner at hotel is included. (B, D)

Day 5 (Wed) Seville/Granada

– After breakfast, depart Seville and continue tour with a step back into the rich history of Granada as you visit its main attraction, the fabulous Alhambra Palace, widely regarded as being one of the 10 architectural wonders of the world. Both graceful and mighty, this citadel is laced in stone and is surrounded by gardens and fountains. Your tour included ample time to walk through the beautiful grounds of Generalife and view the palace of Charles V. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner is included at your hotel. (B, D

Day 6 (Thu) Granada/Toledo/Madrid 

– After breakfast, depart for Toledo. This medieval town is considered one of the oldest in Europe. Your tour’s highlighys will be a visit to St. Tome, for a view of the masterpiece by El Greco. Continue to Madrid. (B)

BARCELONA OPTIONAL EXTENSIÓN

Day 8 (Fri) Barcelona

– Arrival in Barcelona. Balance of the day at leisure. We suggest to walk around downtown, in particular the favourite walk among the Barcelona people: Plaza Catalunya and to walk along the “Ramblas” street where the popular and characteristic market of flowers and birds. This area is full of people watching street-actros and musicians, etc.Overnight at hotel Barcelona Center 4* or similar

Day 9 (Sat) Barcelona

– After breakfast, at 09:00 your English speaking local guide will be waiting you for a walking tour in the oldest downtown Barcelona, the Gothic quarter. There we will visit the Boqueria Market, we will see inside a modernist structure, the explosion of colours of the fruits, meat, etc. Later we will follow to visit the Cathedral and in the maze of lillet streets around where we will find splendid palace and some of the main institution building as Generalitat (regional goverment). We will visit St. Maria del Mar in splendid Gothic art. We will finish the tour in Las Ramblas, the popular street full of street actors, sellers of flowers and birds, etc.. Day 10 (Sun) Barcelona
